To make a day of it
Burg Bromberg stands in Sachsenheim (Landkreis Ludwigsburg), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. No visits are on record for this building.
Burg Bromberg was a hilltop castle, now vanished, whose well preserved earthworks still crown a small rocky spur above the Kirbach valley near Sachsenheim. Built before 1200, it was torn down in 1824 and its stones reused elsewhere. What remains to be seen today, known locally as the Schlössle, is the fortified ground itself: ramparts, ditches and the outline of the former approach through the deserted village of Bromberg. No standing structure survives, but the shape of the site, with its two moats and its former gate, is still readable on the ground.
What to know
- No building still stands here: the visit is a walk over an earthwork site, not a structure.
- Access is via a path climbing from the Kirbach valley, passing near the old Bromberg mill.
- The ground is sloped and includes ditches and ramparts, so sturdy footwear and reasonable mobility are needed.
- There are no opening hours or fees, as this is an open outdoor site.
- The remains lie within woodland, away from roads, in a natural rather than built heritage setting.
