To make a day of it
Burg Allerburg stands in Sonnenstein (Landkreis Eichsfeld), in Thuringia, Germany. Recorded dating: 11th century. No visits are on record for this building.
Burg Allerburg is a ruined hilltop castle on the Allerberg, an isolated hill overlooking the valley near Bockelnhagen, in the Landkreis Eichsfeld in Thuringia. Likely founded before the 12th century by the lords of Allerberg, it later passed through several noble families, including the counts of Hohnstein, the landgraves of Hesse and the counts of Schwarzburg. Destroyed during the Peasants' War in 1525, it remained a ruin for centuries until a brick and half-timbered building was erected there in the early 20th century by Baron August von Minnigerode, a structure that has itself since fallen into ruin. The small, wooded summit still shows traces of a lower and upper bailey along with a tower, as well as an old sunken path leading up from the valley.
