To make a day of it
Burg Gleichenstein stands in Wachstedt (Landkreis Eichsfeld), in Thuringia, Germany. Recorded dating: 11th century. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Burg Gleichenstein stands in Wachstedt, in the Landkreis Eichsfeld, in Thuringia, on a site that has carried a fortification since the 11th century. The present structure dates from a 13th century rebuilding, undertaken after the earlier medieval stronghold was destroyed during a conflict between the Archbishop of Mainz and the Landgrave of Thuringia. For more than five hundred years it served as the administrative and judicial seat of the Mainz archbishops over the Eichsfeld region. Now in private hands, the castle has passed through many uses, from a children's home to a company headquarters, and is currently being secured while archaeological studies continue.
