To make a day of it
Burg Gleichen stands in Drei Gleichen (Landkreis Gotha), in Thuringia, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Recorded dating: 11th century. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Burg Gleichen rises in Thuringia on a cone-shaped hill some hundred metres above the valley shaped by the Gera and Apfelstädt rivers, part of the fortified group known as the Drei Gleichen. First recorded in 1034, this medieval ruin was the site of a notable siege in 1088 and later passed to the Archbishopric of Mainz and then to the Counts of Gleichen. Visitors today can walk among the remains of the outer walls and the keep, from which the former marshland, now dotted with quarry ponds, can be seen.
