What the French Ministry of Culture records
Cette demeure, bâtie par l'architecte Eugène Cordier pour le négociant Charles-Nicolas Perrier, est à la fois résidence privée, lieu de réception, lieu de stockage et d'élaboration du champagne. Les travaux débutent en 1852 par le creusement des caves. Les deux pavillons sur rue sont construits, en commençant par celui du concierge, au cours des années 1852-1853. Ils se poursuivent par les maçonneries du corps principal : 1853-1854. La charpente et la couverture sont posées en 1855 permettant de commencer l'aménagement intérieur qui s'achève à la fin de l'année 1856. En 1890, la statue en fonte intitulée « Le veneur » est installée dans la cour d'honneur. Les caves du château serviront d'hôpital militaire pour les troupes italiennes pendant la première guerre mondiale.
