To make a day of it

Château du Plessis stands in Blanzy (Saône-et-Loire), in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 18th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.

Overlooking a pond near Blanzy, the château du Plessis combines the remains of a medieval stronghold with a neo-Gothic remodelling from the turn of the 20th century. First recorded in 1279, the estate passed through several families before coming to the marquis de Barbentane in the 19th century, whose descendants still own it. As a private residence, it is not open for visits, though its layered architecture, a 14th-century square tower, an 18th-century main building and later Viollet-le-Duc-inspired additions, can be seen from outside.
