Burgundy castles in 2 days, from Guédelon to Berzé

Guédelon, Ancy-le-Franc, Tanlay, Bussy-Rabutin, Cormatin and Berzé: the Yonne on day one, the road south on day two.
Written for visitors driving in from the east, by way of Dijon, or down from Paris, who will carry on south afterwards. The route starts at Auxerre and ends above Mâcon, so it fits a journey towards Lyon or Provence as well as a return by way of Basel. Day one stays in the Yonne: Guédelon, where a castle has been built since 1997 with the tools and methods of the 13th century, then two Renaissance houses 10 km apart. Day two follows the A6 south with three stops and more road than the first: the totals below are calculated between stops. Book Guédelon online for summer dates; Cormatin is seen by guided tour only, so check its times on the fiche before planning the afternoon around it.
Day 1

Guédelon first, as early as it opens, then about 80 km east to Ancy-le-Franc and 10 km further to Tanlay; the two are close enough to share an afternoon.

Day 2
Bussy-Rabutin in the morning, then about 115 km south by the A6 to Cormatin, guided tour only, and 18 km on to Berzé above the Mâconnais; the A6 continues south from there.

The order of stops is chained nearest-first from the starting town, and distances are as the crow flies: allow a third more by road. Only châteaux whose opening to the public we know are included.
