Château de Cormatin stands in Cormatin (Saône-et-Loire), in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument. Adult admission costs 14.5 EUR. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Built in the early seventeenth century by Antoine du Blé d'Uxelles on an island in the Grosne river, Cormatin castle combines a defensive silhouette inherited from the wars of religion with remarkably refined interiors. Visitors can see the open-well staircase, the oldest of its kind surviving in France, along with the marchioness of Uxelles's apartments, featuring carved wooden fireplaces, panelled walls and painted ceilings. The twelve-hectare park, recreated in the 1990s, includes a boxwood maze arranged around a central pavilion.
