What the French Ministry of Culture records

Construit entre 1544 et 1550 pour Antoine III de Clermont-Tonnerre sur les plans de Sebastiano Serlio, le château d'Ancy-le-Franc constitue un jalon essentiel dans l'évolution de l'architecture de la Renaissance en France par la qualité de son architecture et de son décor. Au nord, les communs construits pour Louvois à la fin du 17e siècle par Jules Hardouin-Mansart ou Robert de Cotte se composent de deux tours quadrangulaires, la première, la cour des écuries, étant ouverte sur la cour d'honneur aménagée vers 1761 par François-Michel César, petit-fils du ministre de Louis XIV. Au nord de la façade septentrionale de ces deux cours, se trouvent trois parcelles qui abritaient des aménagements domestiques : derrière les écuries, un pédiluve et deux glacières.
