In Ancy-le-Franc, in the Yonne department, stands a château built in the mid 16th century for Antoine III de Clermont-Tonnerre, following plans brought from Italy by Sebastiano Serlio. The building marked a turning point in French Renaissance architecture, with façades organised according to a modular approach that was new at the time. Inside, several rooms still hold painted decoration attributed to Primaticcio and artists of the Fontainebleau school. Around the main house, outbuildings, moats and a park form a listed historic monument.
