To make a day of it

Château des Montils stands in Les Montils (Loir-et-Cher), in the Centre-Val de Loire region of France. No visits are on record for this building.

The château des Montils survives today only as the remains of a medieval stronghold, overlooking the Beuvron valley from a wooded hill. Visitors find a cylindrical keep sixteen metres across, fragments of a triple defensive wall, and a fortified gateway, the last traces of a stronghold that once guarded the county of Blois. The site is valued above all for its natural setting, much as early chroniclers described it, with the river running below the hill and forests all around.
