To make a day of it

Château de Vaussieux stands in Vaux-sur-Seulles (Calvados), in the Normandie region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 18th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.

The château de Vaussieux stands in Vaux-sur-Seulles, in Calvados, on an estate occupied since the Middle Ages, though its present appearance dates from the second half of the 18th century. Around 1771 the marquis d'Héricy had the building remodelled, adding a storey and larger windows, shortly before it became in 1778 the headquarters of a large military camp assembled by Louis XVI, an episode linked to the American War of Independence. The courtyard facade still bears a balcony and a pediment carrying the arms of the marquis and marquise d'Héricy.
