The château de Sallegourde stands in Villenave-d'Ornon, near the old town centre, on an estate that still holds traces from the 14th century though most of its present architecture dates from the 16th and 17th centuries. Two wings set at a right angle, flanked by square pavilions, surround a courtyard still watched over by two dovecote towers. Inside, Renaissance fireplaces, French-style ceilings and carved consoles recall the nearby route of the pilgrim road to Santiago de Compostela.
