In Saint-Pastour, in the Lot-et-Garonne department, the ruined castle stands at the north-west corner of the old bastide town walls, founded in the 13th century by Alphonse de Poitiers. The building, a four-sided structure reinforced with three towers, went through the Hundred Years' War and later the Wars of Religion before losing its upper floor. Visitors can still see the walls, a fireplace and the gun loops cut into the stone in the late Middle Ages for defence.
