To make a day of it

Château de Roussillon stands in Saint-Pierre-Lafeuille (Lot), in the Occitanie region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 12th century, 15th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Set on a hilltop above the Curade valley, about ten kilometres north of Cahors, the Château de Roussillon shows the remains of a stronghold begun in the 13th century. Surrounded by a moat, the surviving buildings include three towers and a main wing around two courtyards, out of what was once an eight-tower complex. The castle fell to the English in 1355, served as a Protestant stronghold in the 16th century, and hosted King Louis XIII in 1632 before falling into ruin and being stripped for stone. Restoration begun in 1958 brought back much of its former appearance, and the building is now lived in.
