Set against a wooded hillside overlooking the Bar valley, the Château de Rocan has kept, since the 16th century, a square main building flanked by two round towers, built in a notably austere, fortress-like style. Thick walls faced with rough-hewn stone blocks, gun loops cut into the towers, and the remains of a vanished machicolation gallery give the building a medieval character rarely preserved so well among castles in the Ardennes. Standing apart from the village at the end of an old lane lined with stone markers, the site also commands a wide view over the Marfée plain.
