Château de Rabestan stands in Saint-Avit-les-Guespières (Eure-et-Loir), in the Centre-Val de Loire region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 12th century, 14th century, 15th century, 18th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

What the French Ministry of Culture records

La première mention de Rabestan remonte à 1130. Entre 1430 et 1440, le château fort fut presque entièrement détruit. Le donjon seul échappa partiellement à la destruction. En 1558, les protestants incendièrent grange et étable dans la basse-cour, et pillèrent le mobilier du château. En 1569, l'accès à la basse-cour était assuré par un pont de bois dormant et celui du château par un pont-levis. A l'emplacement du donjon s'élevait un pavillon carré. Dans le fond de la cour, un bâtiment agrémenté d'un escalier à vis, est bâti sur deux celliers et compte une tourelle à l'extrémité ouest. En 1589, le château fut presque entièrement détruit par les troupes de Henri de Navarre. Il fut réédifié au 17e siècle, en plus d'un bâtiment contenant la salle de justice, celle des archives et la chapelle, détruit vers 1858. Il ne reste du château lui-même que l'arase et les murs extérieurs entourés de douves, deux tourelles d'angle et un puits. Au sud, apparaissent encore les vestiges d'une motte féodale.
