Its façades combine several periods, from the Renaissance to English neo-Gothic and the 18th century, giving the whole an assembled rather than uniform character. The grounds, planted with cedars brought from Lebanon, form an English-style park surrounding the buildings. The estate also has a lesser-known chapter of history: in 1939 it sheltered Egyptian antiquities and Napoleonic collections from the Louvre ahead of the German advance.
