Château de Pupetières stands in Châbons (Isère), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: third quarter of the 19th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
In Châbons, in the Isère department, the château de Pupetières owes its present appearance to Eugène Viollet-le-Duc, commissioned by the Virieu family to rebuild in neo-Gothic style the medieval stronghold dating back to the 13th century. The works, carried out between 1861 and 1866 with architect Denis Darcy overseeing the outbuildings, produced an ensemble whose vestibule, wrought-iron staircase, great drawing room with its fireplace, and two-storey library can still be seen today. The estate also recalls the stay of poet Alphonse de Lamartine, who wrote Le Vallon here, and of the marquise de Virieu, born Noailles.
