To make a day of it

Château de la Veyrie stands in Bernin (Isère), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Set on a hilltop above the Isère valley, the château de la Veyrie is a former fortified house dating from the 11th century, reshaped in the 1920s with the addition of a slender turret that still defines its silhouette today. The estate was the cradle of the Bernin family, whose member Jean de Bernin, archbishop of Vienne, held particular prominence, and it passed through several owners before being bought and restored by the town of Bernin in 1995. Visitors can see a square tower with thick walls, a well roughly forty metres deep, and views over the Belledonne mountain range; the site now hosts exhibitions and a restaurant.
