To make a day of it

Château de Pont-Remy stands in Pont-Remy (Somme), in the Hauts-de-France region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: Middle Ages). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

On an island formed by two branches of the Somme river, the ruins of the Château de Pont-Remy recall a medieval stronghold that lived through the Hundred Years' War and hosted several sovereigns. Remodelled as a neo-gothic residence in the 19th century, the building was gutted by a fire in 2012 that destroyed its woodwork, floors and roof. Only a round medieval tower and the weakened walls of the main house still stand, within a three-hectare park that the municipality, owner since 2015, is working to secure.
