Au cours du dernier tiers du 19ème siècle, l'entreprise Saint prospère au point de devenir un modèle du capitalisme paternaliste. Vers 1870, la famille Saint entreprend la construction du château, du parc et de son bois. Le château, de style à dominante Louis XIII, est indissociable de son parc paysager et de son jardin. Le domaine constitue, ainsi, une oeuvre majeure dans l'art de l'architecture éclectique et dans celui du parc paysager et de son jardin tels qu'ils étaient conçus à la fin du 19ème siècle.
