Grande demeure rectangulaire cantonnée de pavillons, le château fut édifié à l'extrême fin du 16e siècle par Pierre de Maytie, membre d'une vieille famille Mauléonnaise qui compta, entre autre, trois évêques d'Oloron. L'architecture est encore marquée par la Renaissance (fenêtres à meneaux et frontons, lucarnes ouvragées, mascarons, cheminées sculptées). La remarquable charpente en triple carène de navire soutient un immense toit de bardeaux et d'ardoise. L'édifice est complété par des dépendances et un pigeonnier.
