Château de Beaulieu stands in Germignac (Charente-Maritime), in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: fourth quarter of the 16th century, 18th century). Admission is free. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
The Beaulieu estate in Germignac is built around a manor house dating mainly from the 17th century, together with former farm buildings that once housed a distillery, sheds and a bakehouse. Its most striking feature is the square dovecote built in 1595, still pierced with close to 880 nesting holes and topped with a hipped roof lit by two Renaissance-style dormers. The manor's axial doorway, framed by pilasters and a moulded entablature, rounds out this rural complex shaped by successive building phases from the 16th to the 19th century.
What to know
- Admission is free.
- The site has been listed as a monument historique since 1992, for the dovecote and the manor's axial doorway.
- The estate remains a private farm complex, so the visit is mainly limited to viewing the exteriors.
