What the French Ministry of Culture records

Jusqu'à la Révolution, Lignières fut le siège d'une seigneurie importante qui relevait du roi. Le château fut rebâti au début du 17e siècle sur l'emplacement d'un premier édifice médiéval qui tombait en ruines. Le maître-architecte en fut Jehan Cosset. L'accès se fait par un pont enjambant la rivière qui alimente les douves. Une cour intérieure est délimitée en avant de la façade sud. La façade nord est ouverte sur un pré qu'entourent également des douves. L'édifice est formé d'un corps principal à trois étages dont un sous combles, et de deux pavillons carrés aux angles, en saillie sur la façade nord, et dont la toiture à quatre pans repose sur des mâchicoulis jouant le rôle de consoles. Sur la façade sud, le pavillon d'angle est prolongé par une aile rectangulaire à deux étages. La façade s'ouvre par une porte en plein cintre double, au chambranle mouluré encadré de deux pilastres supportant un entablement. L'intérieur a été totalement remanié. Deux salles du premier étage conservent cependant leur cheminée d'origine.
