What the French Ministry of Culture records

Le lieu apparaît pour la première fois dans une charte de l'abbaye de Roncevaux en 1189, qui y fonda un hôpital pour les pèlerins se rendant à Saint-Jacques de Compostelle. En 1569, le baron de Sénégas, envoyé par Montgomery, incendia la plupart des maisons nobles du pays de Soule qui durent être relevées par la suite. Le château se compose actuellement de deux corps de logis du 17e ou du 18e siècle, flanqués de deux grosses tours du 15e siècle. L'intérieur conserve des lambris de chêne du 18e siècle dans une salle à manger, surmontés de panneaux formés par des encadrements moulurés en plâtre. Dans la grande salle, il ne reste plus de l'ancienne décoration qu'une belle cheminée en chêne du 18e siècle au plafond des poutres fort bien moulurées.
