Where
Lacarre

Château de Lacarre stands in Lacarre (Pyrénées-Atlantiques), in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: fourth quarter of the 19th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.

The château de Lacarre, in Basse-Navarre, stands on the site of a medieval fortified house, of which only the strategic position between Pays de Cize, Ostabarret and Irissarry survives. The building seen today results mainly from the rebuilding undertaken by Marshal Harispe in the early 19th century, followed by an eclectic remodelling in 1880 led by departmental architect Emile Doyère. Several interior rooms still recall the marshal, including a main drawing room, dining room and library, as well as the bedrooms of the marshal, his wife and his aide-de-camp.
