Standing along the pilgrim route to Compostela via Roncevaux, in Bussunarits-Sarrasquette, the Château d'Aphat is built around a square main building flanked by four round towers dating from the 15th century. Altered over the centuries, notably in 1731, the house has remained in the hands of the descendants of the family who turned it from a stronghold into a noble residence. Visitors can see the uncrowned towers with their arrow slits, a spiral staircase of pink Arradoy sandstone inside one of them, and traces of the former Navarrese gateway walled up on the north-west side.
