What the French Ministry of Culture records

Château où Pierre de Ronsard naquit en 1524. Le manoir, construit par le père du poète vers 1515, comprend un corps de logis rectangulaire, et des dépendances creusées dans le tuffeau. Les cuisines troglodytes ont des portes ornées de sculptures Renaissance. Le château a été fortement restauré au 19e siècle. La demeure présente, par son décor, un grand intérêt. On y trouve pour la première fois des éléments qui seront utilisés ensuite dans les châteaux royaux des bords de Loire, mêlés à des décors floraux. L'ensemble n'est pas parvenu intégralement jusqu'à notre époque. Il comprenait plusieurs bâtiments groupés autour d'une cour intérieure : le corps de logis principal, une chapelle, des communs. La chapelle et l'aile en retour vers le coteau ont disparu. Du bâtiment adossé au coteau ne subsistent que les caves et une partie de l'escalier qui desservait les étages.
