Situé à Chaumont-sur-Tharonne, le petit château de La Motte garde les traces successives de son évolution, suivant les principaux cycles de transformation des châteaux solognots. Ce manoir de La Motte, avec ses dépendances et l'ensemble du domaine, reste un témoin rare et précieux d'un édifice seigneurial représentatif du patrimoine castral de la Sologne. Depuis les premières strates médiévales jusqu'aux dernières des 18e et 19e siècles mises en place par la famille Gaullier, qui a alimenté en maires la commune de Chaumont-sur-Tharonne, l'évolution de l'ensemble de ce domaine solognot peut s'effectuer facilement à travers la lecture des vestiges des bâtiments et du paysage, particulièrement lisibles sur les photographies aériennes. Le lieu castral de la Motte garde une symbolique patrimoniale forte avec ses vestiges archéologiques remontant au Moyen Age, son petit manoir du 14e-15e siècles reconstruit au 18e siècle sur sa plate forme fossoyée, ainsi que l'ensemble de ses dépendances.
