To make a day of it

Château de la Londe stands in Biéville-Beuville (Calvados), in the Normandie region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 18th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.

At the end of a long tree lined avenue, the château de la Londe stands in Biéville-Beuville, its mid eighteenth century façade built for a treasurer of France from Caen. It belongs to a group of understated country houses built by local notables, designed more for comfort than for show. The entrance gate, flanked by two pavilions and guarded by a sunken ditch, leads to a main building that has remained in the same family for generations. The site also bears the marks of the June 1944 fighting, when British troops stormed it after the Normandy landings.
