Château de Mathieu stands in Mathieu (Calvados), in the Normandie region of France. No visits are on record for this building.
At la Capelle, the old quarter of the village of Mathieu near Caen, this mid-eighteenth-century château appears at the end of a double row of trees, behind a wrought-iron gate and a dry moat. Built for a marquis of the Fresnel family, the house later belonged to two notable figures in Norman geology and palaeontology, Eugène Eudes-Deslongchamps and his son-in-law Alexandre Bigot. Around the main building stand a chapel with baroque decoration, former farm outbuildings and a park planted with varied species of trees. The site also carries traces of the 1944 landings, when British forces set up a logistics base there, visited by Field Marshal Montgomery.
