To make a day of it

Château de Gréolières stands in Gréolières (Alpes-Maritimes), in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 14th century, 18th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.

The ruins of the Gréolières castle overlook the village from a rocky spur, remnants of a stronghold first recorded in the 11th century. Built by the viscounts of Nice and later held by the lords of Villeneuve-Vence, it survived medieval conflicts, the wars of religion and 18th century bombardments before falling into ruin. Visitors come today for the setting and the view rather than for an intact building.
