To make a day of it

Château Saint-Jeannet stands in Saint-Jeannet (Alpes-Maritimes), in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region of France. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

The Château Saint-Jeannet stands above the village of the same name, about ten kilometres northwest of Nice, on the hill separating Saint-Jeannet from the village of La Gaude. The earliest traces of building on the site date back to the 11th century, and the château has been destroyed and rebuilt several times over the centuries. A restoration completed in 2009 aimed to recover the layout of the medieval fort, including its outer walls and observatory tower. The building now functions as an events venue, which has helped fund its upkeep.

Frequently asked

Can the Château Saint-Jeannet be visited freely?
The building is mainly used for private events and weddings, which limits free public visits to the monument.
How old is the Château Saint-Jeannet?
The earliest construction on the hill dates to the 11th century, with written records of a château there from the 13th century.
Why is it called Château Saint-Jeannet rather than Château de la Gaude?
The name was changed after the 2009 restoration to link it to the better-known village of Saint-Jeannet overlooking it, and to distinguish it from another Château de la Gaude near Aix-en-Provence.
What remains of the original medieval château?
The 2009 restoration tried to recover the layout of the early fort, including the position of its outer walls and observatory tower.
