To make a day of it

Château de Durianne stands in Le Monteil (Haute-Loire), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 15th century, 18th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.

In the hamlet of Durianne, in the commune of Le Monteil, this fortified house dating from the late 15th century has kept its defensive character intact. The rectangular main building, flanked by round towers and a square tower topped with a parapet, faces a courtyard to the north, while the south front opens onto a garden. Visitors can notice the round stair tower with its gothic-framed openings, a reminder of the medieval origins of the building, alongside the large 18th-century windows that later altered its appearance.
