On the commune of Coustaussa, in the Aude department, the ruins of a 12th-century hilltop castle stand above the Sals valley. Traces remain of a double defensive wall, square towers and a round turret, remnants of a history shaped by the Albigensian Crusade and a slow dismantling in the 19th century. This is an open-air ruin, with no particular visitor facilities.
