Perched on a rocky spur in the Cabardès, protected by ravines on three sides, Saissac castle overlooks the Vernassonne gorges at the edge of the Montagne Noire. What remains today dates back to the 13th century, with a keep, curtain walls and towers that recall its defensive role before the 16th century building works. The visit covers only the ruins, with no furniture or interior decor, but gives a tangible sense of medieval military architecture.
