What the French Ministry of Culture records
La plus ancienne mention du premier château de Saint-Ferriol date de 1155. Le château actuel, construit vraisemblablement à la fin du 16e ou au début du 17e siècle, a donc remplacé un édifice plus ancien. Le château est composé d'un corps principal, de plan rectangulaire, à un étage et un étage de comble, et de deux ailes basses en partie détruites, au nord, qui ferment la cour à l'est et à l'ouest. L'entrée primitive était à l'est ; ce portail en arc plein cintre est aujourd'hui occulté. Le château est construit sur une plate-forme qui domine le village. Au niveau de l'étage de comble existe une cheminée qui porte la mention de " Noble Anne de Mauleon " et la date de 1630. L'écusson placé au centre du manteau représente un lion en haut-relief, dressé contre un château à trois tours. Ce château témoigne pour l'essentiel de l'architecture du 17e siècle. Il a fait l'objet de plusieurs réaménagements, notamment à la fin du 17e siècle et à partir de 1763.
