In the town of Quillan, in the Aude department, the ruins of a 13th-century fortified castle form a roughly square layout, once part of the holdings of the archbishops of Narbonne. Visitors can still make out the bases of the corner turrets that once defended the walls, along with a row of well-preserved arrow slits cut into the bossed stonework. The original pointed-arch entrance remains visible at the foot of the south wall.
