To make a day of it
Château de La Serpent stands in La Serpent (Aude), in the Occitanie region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: second half of the 17th century, 18th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.
Standing above the entrance to the village of La Serpent, in the upper Aude valley, this large hillside château displays the main features of classical architecture from the reign of Louis XIV. Its rectangular main building, flanked by two square towers pierced with gun loops, frames a courtyard of honour reached through a gateway preceded by pavilions. The current building is thought to have been rebuilt from 1661 onward on the site of a medieval castle already recorded in the 13th century.
