In Bélaye, in the Lot department, the château de Cousserans stands in the hamlet bearing its name, built at the end of the 15th century on the site of an earlier fortified house belonging to the knights of the bishop's stronghold. Its rectangular main building with rounded corners, topped with machicolations, follows the plan typical of Auvergne castles. From outside, one can make out the stair tower set against the north facade and the south wing containing a ribbed vaulted room long taken for a chapel.
