Standing on a hill above the Garonne river, the château de Clermont-Dessous survives today as a ruin, remnant of a stronghold that once guarded the river's right bank in the Middle Ages. The site still shows a square keep standing alone within the courtyard, along with traces of the enclosing wall and a fortified gate. Visitors come for the military past of the place, marked by a failed siege in 1221 and by events of the Hundred Years' War, as much as for the view over the valley from the surrounding village.
