What the French Ministry of Culture records

"Château édifié en 1271-1272, agrandi dans la seconde moitié du 15e siècle. Les guerres de Religion et l'incurie des abbés commendataires ruinent le château. Au 19e siècle, l'édifice est restauré dans le style néo-gothique. En 1971, le décorateur Vital-Durand réhabilité les bâtiments et réaménage un jardin. Le château se compose de deux ensembles s'articulant autour du donjon. Le château du 13e siècle comportait une enceinte quadrangulaire sur laquelle s'appuyaient divers bâtiments et flanquée d'un donjon cylindrique. Il s'agit du plus ancien exemple lyonnais connu de fortification talutée et équipée de grandes archères, marquant un nouveau stade défensif. Les deux corps de bâtiment du 16e siècle se dressent à l'extérieur de l'enceinte primitive. Aménagements des 19e et 20e siècles, notamment une salle de réception néo-gothique avec sa cheminée monumentale, ses boiseries, son papier peint, son vitrail et sa porte du 15e siècle "médiévalisée". A la Révolution, l'emprise du château du 13e siècle était déjà en jardin. Il a été aménagé au 19e siècle en jardin de rocaille dont subsiste notamment une petite grotte artificielle. Dans les années 1970, un nouveau jardin jouant sur les masses végétales a été dessiné par le décorateur Vital-Durand."
