Overlooking the village of Châtillon, in the heart of Beaujolais wine country, this 12th century fortified castle went through eight centuries of family feuds and restorations before becoming the listed ruin that visitors see today. The site includes a fully preserved 13th century cylindrical keep, a Romanesque building decorated with Lombard arcading, and a chapel dedicated to Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours. Visitors can also see a 55 metre deep well and, in a small adjoining building, medieval graffiti carved into the former dungeon cell.
