Standing on a ridge above the Morgon valley, Jarnioux castle still looks every bit the medieval stronghold despite alterations carried out between the 15th and 17th centuries. Its pentagonal enclosure, flanked by six towers including a 30-metre cylindrical keep, and preceded by a barbican and gate tower, gives a clear sense of Beaujolais defensive architecture. A Renaissance wing, attributed to Philibert Delorme, stands in contrast to the golden stone of the older parts.
