To make a day of it

Château de Chaumont stands in Chaumont (Haute-Savoie), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. No visits are on record for this building.

Perched on a rocky spur above the Fornant gorges in Haute-Savoie, the ruins of Chaumont castle mark the site of a 12th century fortress that once guarded the Malpas passage between Geneva and Seyssel. Dismantled and rebuilt several times during conflicts between Savoy and France, it was finally razed in 1630 on the orders of Louis XIII. Visitors can still make out the remains of a Romanesque keep restored in 2009, along with traces of the castle's two surrounding walls.
