Built between 1612 and 1643 in Béarn, Cassaber Castle rose from the ambition of Zacharie de Laffite, a Protestant nobleman, to elevate an ancient lordship into a substantial residence. The initial L-shaped structure, with its north and east wings, received successive expansions eastward in later centuries, and a utility pavilion in the 19th century. The whole retains its 17th-century character, evident in its windows and portal crowned with a ball-topped pediment.
