In Viols-en-Laval, in the Hérault department, the château de Cambous forms a quadrangular building flanked by towers, largely erected during the 16th and 17th centuries around a Renaissance arcaded inner courtyard. Its carved west-facing entrance gate combines pilasters, masks and chained animals in an elaborate composition typical of the period. The east wing incorporates the keep of the original medieval castle, whose battlements were restored in the early 20th century.
