The domaine de Grammont, east of Montpellier, combines a medieval monastic site turned wine estate with a large urban park converted since the 1980s into a hub for concerts and sport. Around the château, which has kept its gardens, stand a 19th-century chapel now used for Orthodox worship, the Zénith Sud arena and numerous sports facilities. Visitors come here less for a classic heritage tour than to explore a mixed site that still bears traces of a priory founded in the 12th century by the Order of Grandmont.

What to know

The château now serves as an annex town hall for civil weddings and is not open for standard tourist visits.
The Sainte-Philothée chapel, rebuilt in the late 19th century, is used today for Orthodox worship and is not visited as a heritage monument.
The park, freely accessible, includes a fitness trail, an equestrian centre, sports grounds and the listed statue Hecate and Cerberus.
The estate hosts the Zénith Sud concert hall, with several thousand seats, as well as a theatre used by the Théâtre des Treize Vents.
Access is via avenue Pierre-Mendès-France, near the A9 motorway junction, on the eastern edge of Montpellier.
