In Vestric-et-Candiac, within the Gard department, the château de Montcalm occupies grounds formerly linked to the marquisate of Calvisson and held successively by various noble houses. It was in 1730 that the property came into the hands of the future marquis, who married into it, a man who would later lose his life in 1759 fighting for New France. Two towers still frame the two-storey main building, inside which a French-style staircase and ceilings from that era have been preserved. Facing the château stands a statue of the marquis, the work of sculptor Léopold Morice, dating from 1910.
