To make a day of it

Château de la Roquette stands in Rouet (Hérault), in the Occitanie region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: Middle Ages). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.

Perched on a ridge facing the pic Saint-Loup, opposite the Montferrand fortress, the ruins of the château de la Roquette stand on an isolated site north of Montpellier. Also known as the château de Viviourès, this former feudal stronghold was first recorded in the 12th century as property of the count of Melgueil, before passing to the Lautrec family and gradually falling into ruin. Little remains today beyond scattered remnants, yet their elevated position over the Hortus mountain makes the visit as much about the landscape as the history.
